Punica granatum “Uniqa”: the smallest ornamental pomegranate, full of Mediterranean charm
Punica granatum “Uniqa”, a compact new variety with abundant flowering, is now available in European garden centres. This ornamental pomegranate tree is distinguished by its bright orange funnel-shaped flowers, which bloom for a long time from early summer onwards. Later in the season, the flowers give way to small, inedible fruits that add an extra decorative touch in autumn.
What sets this cultivar apart is not only its long flowering period, but above all its compact growth. Punica “Uniqa” is the smallest ornamental pomegranate tree of its species. Thanks to its modest size, this plant is ideal for urban gardens, terraces and balconies. It also fits well in rock gardens, Mediterranean or contemporary-style gardens and decorative planters.
The seedling was selected by Ball Australia Pty Ltd and is marketed in Europe by Hoogeveen Plants. Its launch is scheduled for 2025. Punica “Uniqa” is protected by plant breeders’ rights and is managed by Plantipp.
