Mahonia eurybracteata “Hillmah” (METEOR) is a striking, evergreen ornamental shrub with a distinctive architectural appearance. What makes METEOR so special is its young, deep red foliage that appears in spring and summer and gradually transforms to a deep dark green colour in late summer and autumn. Combined with its non-prickly foliage, this not only adds visual value but also makes it easy to use for both consumers and gardeners.
From late August to November, large, bright yellow flower spikes appear, which not only add colour and texture to the garden, but are also valuable to bees and other pollinators. Especially in autumn, when the supply of flowering plants is limited, METEOR is an important ornamental and biodiversity element.
The plant has a naturally compact and well-branched growth habit, making it ideal for both the garden and pot cultivation. METEOR is the result of breeding by Hillier Nurseries and Garden Centres in the United Kingdom. About Plants Zundert B.V. and Bloemen Young Plants B.V. will market this Mahonia from 2025 onwards. The cultivar is protected by plant breeders’ rights and has been submitted for inspection by About Plants Zundert B.V. and Bloemen Young Plants B.V. Plantipp B.V. is responsible for the management of this new variety.
