Buddleja davidii “1808mag” (OCTOPUS MAGENTA) is a spectacular new butterfly bush that impresses with its unique inflorescence and striking colour. This seedling from Thompson & Morgan in Suffolk (UK) stands out with its intense magenta-coloured flower panicles, which are remarkable not only in shape but also in quantity. Multiple richly flowering side branches emerge from each main stem, literally covering the plant with flowers.
This unusual branching not only creates a spectacular display, but also increases nectar production – a real feast for butterflies, bees and other beneficial insects. The flower panicles also appear in phases, which means that OCTOPUS MAGENTA adds colour and life to the garden for a long time. Thanks to its compact, well-branched growth habit, this Buddleja is ideal for smaller gardens, butterfly gardens, public green projects and use in pots and containers on terraces or balconies. The plant is disease resistant and requires little maintenance.
Buddleja davidii OCTOPUS MAGENTA is protected by plant breeders’ rights and has been marketed by Heinje since 2024. The entry for the inspection was provided by Diderk Heinje Baumschul-Pflanzen-Handel GmbH & Co. KG. Plantipp B.V. is responsible for the management of this new variety.
