Abelia grandiflora “Keyval2501” (SWIRLY BELLS™) – variegated leaves, colourful shoots and bell-shaped flowers
SWIRLY BELLS™ is a compact, semi-evergreen Abelia that stands out for its rich colour contrasts and long flowering period. The dark green leaves with a white/silver edge give the plant a fresh, variegated appearance, while the orange-red young shoots constantly provide new colour nuances.
From late summer to well into autumn, it blooms profusely with large bell-shaped flowers in a purple-pink hue – a striking combination with the variegated foliage. Thanks to its compact growth habit, this new Abelia is particularly suitable for borders, smaller gardens or as an ornamental accent in pots.
This cultivar originated as a mutant and was selected by Klemens Keysers from Kevelaer, Germany. Its commercial introduction is planned for 2025. Plant breeders’ rights protection has been applied for.
