Hibiscus syriacus “Rwoods9” (RUBY CHIFFON) is a vibrant new addition to the well-known Chiffon series. This seedling from R. Woods in Runcton Holme (UK) stands out with its dark red buds that open into warm purplish-red, semi-double flowers with a diameter of approximately 10 cm. The long flowering period from July to October ensures a continuous display of colour in the garden.
Like the other members of the Chiffon series, RUBY CHIFFON is a well-branched, naturally shaped shrub that requires little maintenance. Pruning in spring is possible but not necessary. The plant is strong, reliable and versatile – from borders and cottage gardens to urban projects, patios, coastal areas and container planting.
Hibiscus syriacus RUBY CHIFFON is protected by plant breeders’ rights and will be marketed from 2025 by Kwekerij Roos, Hochberg Nurseries Ltd. and Kordes Jungpflanzen Handels GmbH. They will therefore jointly submit the plant for testing. Plantipp B.V. is responsible for the management of this new variety.
