Astilbe chinensis ‘Mighty Max’ – a powerful, sparkling addition to the summer border
Astilbe chinensis ‘Mighty Max’ combines impressive flowering with strong and vigorous growth. This seedling, bred by Hand van er Meer from Nieuwe Wetering, stands out for its regal purple flowers that appear in June and July. The thick, long plumes stand on sturdy stems and reach a height of approximately 100-120 cm – a striking appearance for the perennial border or as an eye-catcher in a pot.
It is not only the flowers that are special: the foliage also deserves attention. The deep green leaves are very attractive and, together with the striking flower panicles, form a powerful visual whole. This combination of foliage and flowering value makes “Mighty Max” an attractive addition to the summer plant range.
Astilbe chinensis “Mighty Max” will be commercially available from late 2025 to early 2026 and is being introduced by Compass Plants B.V. in collaboration with Hans van der Meer Potplanten. Plant breeders’ rights have been applied for.
