Agapanthus praecox “Kek5006” (ZAMBEZI) – a perennial, variegated eye-catcher with lavender blue flowers
With Agapanthus praecox “Kek5006” (ZAMBEZI), Formidable Plant Breeders introduces a striking new addition to the Agapanthus range. The main strength of this introduction is its variegated foliage, which is a truly distinctive feature compared to other Agapanthus varieties. ZAMBEZI stands out for its two-tone foliage: fresh green with bright yellow accents. The variegated foliage remains stable and does not revert to green. In addition to the foliage, the flowering also plays an important role. ZAMBEZI forms numerous spherical flower heads in a refined lavender blue hue – remarkably rich for a variegated agapanthus, which usually flowers less profusely. Thanks to its regular, compact growth habit, this plant is easy to grow and perfect for borders, pots or public planting. This evergreen mutant was bred by Keith Kristen in South Africa and will be marketed by HORTIVAL DIFFUSION from September 2025. The plant is not protected by plant breeders’ rights. ZAMBEZI combines a long-lasting decorative effect with strong garden value – from spring to late summer. A bright addition to any garden centre range.
